Field & Marten's History

Field & Marten Associates was founded in 1993 by partners Raymond Field and Marten Van Huizen. Each brought their hands-on operational and leadership experience to a wide range of project sizes and end uses, from small building renovations to the redevelopment of a 10 acre city core site. To date they have over 65 combined years of development, real estate, design/build and planning experience working as project managers, partners, and principals of a variety of businesses and corporations throughout Eastern and Western Canada, including FMA.

Over the years, the clients FMA have served include Canada Post, ICBC, Ministry of Health, Partnerships BC, Ministry of Finance, various School Districts, Fraser Health Authority, and numerous non-profit societies. More recent projects have included a bias towards seniors housing and residential care with an emphasis on developing communities of care allowing residents to age in place. Elim Village is one such community.

To ensure FMA retains a strong comprehension of what it means to be an owner, the principals of FMA also undertake on an ownership basis, their own development projects. Two award winning communities of note are Morgan Heights in south Surrey and Eaglewood Village in Qualicum Beach.

In 2009 Marten Van Huizen took over as CEO and Managing Partner. He continues to run FMA with the same core values and focus on positive community development.

In 2012 Art Reitmayer joined FMA and in 2014 he agreed to become a partner in FMA and is very active in all aspects of FMA’s activities. Art brought with him years of experience in project and operations management, finance, managing non-for-profit organizations and various business as well.
