The New Vista Society was founded in 1943 by Ernie Winch who went on to spearhead the development of numerous housing projects and advocate for the less fortunate.  As the demographics and needs of the surrounding population evolved the Society responded by developing the Burnaby site to host a range of housing from Independent Living apartments to the recently completed 240 bed Care Home.   The site will continue to evolve as New Vista addresses the need for affordable housing in their community.

Project Name: George Derby Master Planning
Location: Burnaby, BC
Client: George Derby Care Society
Description: A seniors community with Long-Term Care and Independent Living
Land Area: 28 Acres

The original George Derby Centre was built over 50 years ago as a rehabilitation centre for young disabled veterans returning from the war with the goal of promoting their return to community living. In 1988, the new George Derby Centre opened as a 300-bed Intermediate Care facility providing residential care to former veterans of the Armed Forces.  Since then the Centre has welcomed non-veterans to address the changing demographics.  In 2017 the newly constructed Derby Manor was opened with 122 units of independent living with support services available to residents.  The Care Society continues to look ahead at meeting the needs of their current residents and opportunities to use their resources to provide more housing in the future.

Project Name: Elim Village – Chilliwack Campus Master Planning
Location: Chilliwack, BC
Client:Elim Housing (Chilliwack) Society
Description: A seniors community comprised of Independent Living Buildings, Supportive Living & Long-Term Care besides an amenity building in the heart of Chilliwack at Garrison Crossing. Currently, the first Independent Living building is under construction.
Land Area: 8.5 Acres

The Elim Housing (Chilliwack) Society was formed in September 2014. The Society’s goal was to pursue the development of a Christian retirement village that could practically serve the faith communities in the upper Fraser Valley area. The Society has since purchased an 8.6 acre parcel of land in the Garrison Crossing area of Chilliwack and a comprehensive site plan that encompasses Elim Village’s campus of care model is being developed.

Currently, the beginning stages of construction for “The Sequoia” is underway. This is the first of four Independent Living buildings for seniors who are 60 years or older. The ground breaking of the 60 unit, four storey building began in early September of this year with an anticipated completion date of February 2018.

Project Name: Elim Village – Surrey Campus Master Planning

Client: Elim Housing Society
Description: A seniors community comprised of Independent Living buildings and Duplexes, Assisted Living & Residential Care along with a central Amenity building.  The latest building, The Garibaldi, is currently under design.
Land Area: 26 Acres
